Ajith’s Mankatha gets the second biggest opening ever
‘Ultimate Star’ Ajith is often referred to as the King of Opening by the critics. The way his films open leave even his harsh critics spellbound. Mankatha, Ajith’s 50th film, that released on August 31, has broken his previous record of Billa. Mankatha was made at a budget of 30 crore and within ten days of its release, the film had made a business of Rs 36 crore.
Trade sources from Chennai point out that Mankatha, directed by Venkat Prabhu, has grossed the second biggest opening ever in Tamil, after Endhiran. The film, which also has Arjun in a key role along with Trisha and Lakshmi Rai as the heroines, has collected at least Rs. 8 crore on the opening day. On release days, shows began as early as 5 a.m., with 100 per cent attendance. Multiplexes in Chennai, like Satyam, Mayajaal etc, had all of their screens showing Mankatha on the opening day and the collection figures were simply great. Shows went on non-stop from morning till night and die-hard fans of ‘Thala’ Ajith still remained without tickets.
Meanwhile, the actor recently shot a foot-tapping number for Billa. The song, choreographed by Raju Sundaram and composed by Yuvan Shankar Raja, was canned in Pondicherry.
Billa 2, which comes after Vishnuvardhan’s Billa, goes back into the past and Billa’s childhood and narrates how he came to be an underworld guy. Chakri Toleti, the director of Unaipol Oruvan, the Tamil remake of A Wednesday, is helming Billa 2.

More light on 'Billa 2'
Ajith fans all over the state and some across the globe are eagerly awaiting the release of his much-awaited don story 'Mankatha' directed by Venkat Prabhu, which will have Ajith sporting the salt and pepper a la George Clooney look.
Now with 'Mankatha' soon going to see that light of day our 'Thala' is neck deep in his next project which, as we had already informed you, is 'Billa-2'. Looks like the don stories have a way of finding Ajith, or is it the other way round? Whatever be the case he is one hero who looks handsome in any role he essays.
'Billa 2', as many would already be aware, will be more like a prequel which will throw light upon how a normal guy, David, from Thuthukudi grows to become a don feared by many. Another interesting aspect is that the director of this film, Chakri Toleti, will use an EPIC camera for filming. 'Billa 2' is now the first ever Indian cinema to be shot using an EPIC camera. It was the same breed of EPIC Camera that was used by James Cameron to film 'Avatar 2'. So now you know what is common between 'Avatar 2' and 'Billa 2'
Now the latest is that, the director, Chakri Toleti went on a trip to Hyderabad, where he had gone location hunting for this film. After which he returned to Chennai and started work immediately with Yuvan Shankar Raja, who is scoring the tunes for this flick.
This movie has more expectations among fans than usual thala flicks as we'll get to see a younger Ajith through this movie..
